In 225/65R17, 225 is the nominal width in millimetres, 65 is the sidewall aspect ratio and 17 is the wheel diameter in inches. R indicates radial construction.

Load and speed
The numbers and letter after the size describe load index and speed rating. Match the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements; a matching size alone is not enough.
Check the vehicle placard
The driver-door placard lists the vehicle’s recommended size and cold inflation pressures. The tire sidewall’s maximum pressure is not the recommended everyday setting.
